September/October Newsletter

Happy Fall to All! Can you believe the summer is gone and it’s all ready October.
We are back on our Fall/Winter schedule as far as meetings are concerned. We meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 through April at Spruce Corner Restaurant on Rte. 9 in Goshen. Please join us at any of our meetings.
First of all, I would like to thank everyone who helped out at the Cummington Fair Food Booth. Without you, our club members and friends, we never would have been able to do it. Even with the threat of Hurricane Irene and the Fair being closed down at 7:00 Saturday night and not re-opening at all on Sunday it looks like we still will make a profit of $2,000.00+. Once again “Thank You”!
Trail passes are in and available at Spruce Corner Restaurant and Goshen General Store or from club officers. The cost of membership has changed this year. It will now cost you $20.00 per sled for membership plus $30.00 for a trail pass. There is no longer a family membership fee due to the fact that several members took advantage of our low membership cost and bought trail passes for up to 5 sleds on a single membership fee. The club members who attended our April 5, 2011 meeting voted unanimously on this change. Please remember that you need to have your sled registration with you each time you go to purchase a trail pass or none will be issued to you.
This will be the last newsletter you will be receiving by mail. Due to the time it takes to put it all together (writing, folding, putting it in envelopes, sealing and putting on the stamp plus the cost of the ink to print them, the paper and the cost of envelopes) along with the cost of postage we have decided that e-mail will be the way everyone will receive it from now on, so PLEASE give us your e-mail address so you can still keep up to date on club news. Of course, you can always go on the club’s web site and look it up there, too.
The weekend of October 14-16th we will be having our club camp out/work weekend at DAR. As many of you know we will have the entire Group Campsite (way out at the end of DAR) to ourselves from Friday, the 14th, until Sunday, the 16th. Food will be provided Friday night through lunch on Sunday, breakfast included. Please let Jerry at 268-8363 or Deb at 268-3145 know if you are planning on attending so we can plan on food. Bring your ATV, brush cutting equipment or what have you because we will be out in the woods working on trails… repairing and clearing for the upcoming riding season. This will also help us get in the hours we need to fulfill this year’s grant that we were just awarded. So bring your camper or tent-there is plenty of room. Hope to see you there!
The club’s Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:00 PM at Spruce Corner Restaurant. As you know, Jerry puts on a really good feast including appetizers, a full buffet-style meal with salad, Prime Rib and baked ham, potatoes, veggies, rolls and dessert. You do need to RSVP to either him or Deb at the numbers mentioned above before December 15th. We will be holding our Yankee Swap again, so if you would like to participate in it, please bring a $10.00 gift (wrapped or unwrapped). This is a really fun night, so we hope you can come join us.
Help our club earn money!! Ski Doo is offering $10.00 per person, which will go to our club if you fill in a form on-line. It only takes a minute to do this, so what have you got to lose! Go to
www.sledmass.com. Scroll down to “Ski-Doo’s $1 Million Club Support Program“. Click on it. Click below ”club support Million $ Ski Doo 2011” on the word “online” to bring you to different options to fill it out. Click on #1. Fill it out. Submit. Simple! Or you can go to your local Ski Doo dealer and do it in person. But remember, you have to do it by November 15th!
One last thing…
Our 8th Annual Memorial Ride will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012.Registration is from 9-11 AM at Spruce Corner Restaurant and the ride leaves at 11AM. We end up at the Turner’s Pavilion in Williamsburg where food and drinks will be available, along with a raffle and 50/50 auction. The cost is $10.00 per sled. For more info, keep an eye on the web-site. Posters will also be available at the Christmas Party and at any of our meetings from December through February. Please tell all your friends and family members about this ride. Remember, the money we raise this day goes to local charities directly in our area. Hope you can join us. Please note that we hold this event even if we are not able to ride due to lack of snow.
That’s it for this time. Please remember to send me your e-mail address at
Lawtonhillmaple@msn.com or put it on your membership form when you renew your SAM Trail Pass this Fall. Until next time…Think Snow!
